BMW Vision M Next shows a view of new hybrid sports cars

With the BMW Vision M Next, BMW is showing what a hybrid sports car of the future might look like. The potential successor to the BMW M1 focuses on driving dynamics.

The design of the BMW Vision M Next is based on both the legendary BMW Turbo and the plug-in hybrid BMW i8. The superimposed headlights next to the wide kidney grill are known from the new BMW Z4. The flat and wedge-shaped silhouette of the Vision M Next integrates gullwing doors and shows a striking color concept on the angular surfaces. The Hofmeister kick is no longer placed at the window, but forms an air opening to the rear. In the taillights the double emblems of BMW Turbo and BMW M1 are placed.

BMW sees for a future vehicles a split into the divisions "Ease" and "Boost". While "Ease" illustrates autonomous driving, "Boost" focuses on driving dynamics. "The vision car BMW Vision M Next gives an outlook on tomorrow's sporty driving," says Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design.

The wing doors unlock automatically via face recognition and open via touch sensor. The purist interior offers two seats and a reduced cockpit with three viewing levels of the "Boost Pod". Two small displays are located on the square steering wheel, around which a curved glass display spans. On a third level, an augmented reality head-up display in the windscreen informs. "The operation is intuitive and clear, all information is displayed in the driver's immediate field of vision," explains Domagoj Dukec, Head of Design BMW.

The BMW Vision M Next is equipped with a plug-in hybrid drive. The system output of electric motor and turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine is 441 kilowatts (600 hp). The acceleration from zero to 100 km / h should be done in three seconds, the maximum speed is up to 300 km / h. A "Boost +" mode provides additional power at the touch of a button. Alternatively, the sports car can be moved with electric four-wheel drive or only with rear-wheel drive. The range in pure electrical operation should be at 100 kilometers.
