Mercedes-AMG A 45 4matic + with new four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine

Mercedes-AMG has introduced the models A 45 4matic + and CLA 45 4matic +. In the S-version, an even stronger expansion stage of the newly developed four-cylinder gasoline engine with turbocharger is available.

For the first time, the compact top models Mercedes-AMG A 45 4matic + and CLA 45 4matic + are graced by the wide radiator grille with the twelve vertical slats. They carry Powerdomes on the hood, get new side skirts and two round double tailpipe panels between the diffuser and spoilers at the front and rear. Optionally there is, among other things, an "AMG aerodynamic package".

The newly developed 2.0-liter gasoline engine with twin-scroll turbocharger was installed 180 degrees around the vertical axis transversely, which should improve the air flow. The cooling system allows different temperature levels for cylinder head and crankcase. In addition, a two-stage, indirect intercooler was integrated into the low-temperature circuit.

Turbo gasoline engine in two power levels
The high-performance four-cylinder with two-stage gasoline injection is available in two power levels: The base makes 285 kW (387 hp), while the S model with 310 kW (421 hp) is the most powerful production four-cylinder. The maximum torque is 480 or 500 Newton meters. The A 45 4matic + accelerates to 100 km / h in 4.0 seconds (CLA 45 4matic + 4.1 seconds), while the S version requires 3.9 seconds (CLA 45 S 4matic +: 4.0 seconds). The top speed is 250 km / h and 270 km / h for the stronger version.

Power is transmitted by an AMG Speedshift DCT 8G dual-clutch transmission with eight gears. The 45 AMG models are equipped as standard with fully variable four-wheel drive with "AMG Torque Control". Two electronically controlled multi-disc clutches in the rear axle drive enable a wheel-selective power distribution between the left and right rear wheels. The body was additionally stiffened with strut braces in the engine compartment, stiffening plates between the longitudinal beam and the A-pillar and the thrust field in the area under the engine.

AMG suspension and race mode
The AMG chassis with a McPherson construction in front and a 4-link rear axle can be optionally optimized with the adaptive "AMG Ride Control" damping system. The high-performance brake system is equipped with 4-piston monobloc fixed calipers on the front and the S models with 6-piston calipers with larger brake discs.

In the interior, sports seats and sports steering wheel with speed-dependent electro-mechanical parameter steering are standard features. The S models differ in some details, such as yellow accents or AMG steering wheel buttons. The driver can choose from three different AMG display styles in the digital instrument cluster. In addition, up to six driving programs are available, the race mode of the S models is optional at the base. The AMG Dynamics vehicle dynamics control system supports dynamic driving maneuvers with a short brake intervention on the inside rear wheel to allow spontaneous and direct steering.
